MONTCLAIR RAILROAD TRAIL

A City of Oakland "Lineark Park"

The Friends of Montclair Railroad Trail maintain and improve this paved, one-mile trail between Montclair Village and Shepherd Canyon. A former rail bed of the Sacramento Northern Railway, the area had been considered for a multi-lane freeway. That plan was cancelled in 1972 due to the new environmental impact law and community action. Beautiful stands of oak trees form a canopy along portions of the trail, and a variety of habitats can be seen along its length. Volunteers prune, remove invasive plants, plant natives, improve drainage, and add permanent improvements when possible. Email MontclairRRTrail@gmail.com for more information.
