Wednesday, May 21 (3rd Wednesday), 7-9pm Bi-Monthly Meeting, Oakland's Dimond Branch Library. Come hear about the current state of Sausal Creek's inhabitants. Emma Brown, longtime volunteer in charge of FOSC's aquatic insect monitoring program, along with Igor Lacan, who wrote his graduate thesis on volunteer monitoring and data verification, and Robert Leidy, a U.S. EPA expert on fish in Bay Area Creeks, will discuss what is known about the creek's insects and fish and what options exist for improving their habitat.
Saturday, May 24, 9am-noon Restoration Workday: Benevides. Meet us at the Scout Hut in Dimond Park, and we will walk up to Benevides to weed the native plant garden at the turnaround and work on erosion control projects further up the trail. There is something for everyone, whether you are a detail-oriented gardener or someone who likes to work with big hand tools, shoring up and stabilizing trails. Email field@sausalcreek.org to RSVP.

Workdays involve clearing debris for fire prevention, pulling invasive plants, planting and marking natives, and extending trails. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Bring work gloves and hand garden tools if you have them. We meet at the end of Beaconsfield Place. Take Park Bl. east til it dead-ends into Mountain. Turn right and then bear left as Mountain becomes Ascot Drive. Turn left at Chelton, then right at the second intersection.
